Do you agree with this list of tips for dealing with migraines?

CureTogether (something-something start-up, Google it if curious) has put together a list of tips for dealing with migraines, allegedly suggested and ranked by CureTogether members:

1. Reduce stress
2. Sleep
3. Ibuprofen
4. Avoid dietary triggers
5. Avoid caffeine
6. Imitrex
7. Don't stare at a computer/screen too long
8. Stay hydrated
9. Neck massage
10. Maxalt
11. Chiropractic treatment
12. Magnesium

Do my gentle readers agree with the order of priorities in this list?

BTW, yours truly was trying to investigate a bit farther into this CureTogether service but they require a sing-up and yours truly does not swing that way. If any of you are members, please do share your experience with it.

I was glad to see this list of tips for dealing with migraines. I am a long time sufferer and agree with the items on the list although I prefer to stay away from anything stronger than Ibuprofen unless nothing else is working and I am desperate.

Since you highlighted curetogether.com, I have been to the site. Great concept of interactive health. Why didn't anyone think of this before?

Hi Rain Gem,
I just wanted to answer your question about signups - it is possible to see all the statistics at CureTogether without signing up an account.

Visit http://www.curetogether.com/Migraine/_cause/ and http://www.curetogether.com/Migraine/_treatment/
and click on the "See Statistics" link on both of those pages to see how many people have shared and ranked each of the tips on the list.

Thank you for your skepticism - it's a great approach to take with any research findings.

Hope you're having a wonderful holiday,

I'm always a bit troubled whenever I see "stress" and Migraine coupled.

Stress can exacerbate an attack in progress, but it's the anxiety that some stress can cause that will trigger a Migraine attack for me.

I'm about to conclude that stress by and of itself doesn't even play a part in triggering Meniere's in me, but again I believe anxiety to be the real problem.

Take the anxiety out of stress and I'm good. That's such a personal thing, though. The stress that makes me fly paralyzes some people, so my old co-workers used to tell me. Yet the least bit of anxiety pops me like a balloon.

Does that mean I'm actually just a pompous old windbag? :p

To Parin,

I agree with what you said about stress and I've never heard the relation of "anxiety" instead. I would recommend adding that to the list on CureTogether if it's not already there. It's so interesting to make discoveries like that and see if other people have it in common.

I don't agree w/ their list and find it somewhat insulting. If only ibuprofen worked!

Also, I never want anyone to touch my neck. Too much sleep can exacerbate the condition. High stress times I actually manage better (my mother's funeral).

I think lists like this make it seem that people like me WANT to have severe, chronic, intractable migraines. I don't.

Hi. My neck is a danger zone. Chiropractic treatment, which I did was like chemo. Each treatment gave me a migraine. I can't even stretch my neck to the smallest degree. If I massage it, which is on the list, I will get a migraine; I have learned this the hard way. PT or trigger point injections for my neck is next on my list. I think this list could be much improved. Carolyn
PS Happy New Year and thanks for a hugely helpful blog.

Alexandra, thanks for the tip, I'll investigate farther.
APC9671, I think we should move preventive measures higher up on the list. That's kinda my problem with it.
Parin and Faren, the stress and anxiety need more research in my book. Have any of you experienced "pain-withdrawal" anxiety. BTW?
Anonymous #1 - I hear you. Could be daunting to read a list like this at times. But bare in mind - people who say things like that have not researched migraines in depth. Those are mostly shortcuts, at least at the top of the list.
Carolyn - I did chiropractics for 2 years. Didn't help much. Look into tension headaches treatment, seriously. These could be the main trigger for you.
