Natural methods to reduce inflammation are becoming more popular as increasing concern emerges over the health effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen. While NSAIDs are some of the most frequently prescribed drugs globally, potential side effects include gastrointestinal toxicity, raised blood pressure and a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.
Pomegranate extract may inhibit the chronic inflammation linked with a variety of health problems such as heart disease and arthritis, according to a study conducted by researchers from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and published in the Journal of Inflammation.
The researches have not focus on migraine and tension headaches but inflammation is a condition migraine people have to deal on constant basis.
While short-term inflammation is often a normal and healthy immune response, chronic inflammation is associated with a variety of health problems including arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis, Type 2 diabetes and dementia. It is also associated with a variety of effects of aging, such as cognitive decline.
Pomegranate and blueberry, my gentle readers, does sound better than ibuprofen and naproxen. Not to mention - tastier.

Did you know that Pomegranate is also a very good source of plant estrogens? This can be good, or bad for Migraineurs, depending on their triggers and comorbidities. I'm glad you talked about this...thanks!!! I know when my own inflammation is down I feel better all around. Cutting out inflammation triggering sugars is huge for me. Have you ever tried pomegranate yourself?

Ruth, thank you. Any therapeutic effect those dry saunas have that could be applicable to migraines?
Ellen, I've tried it. Do prefer blueberries though. Pomegranate I have to delude in something else, otherwise it's too sour. Actually, the reason I wrote this piece - I noticed my sister hitting Pomegranate juice a lot lately. Does seem to work for her.
