The 50th Annual Scientific Meeting of American Headache Society (AHS) Coverage, Last Day

At the last day of AHS' Scientific Meet, many things have happened. We presume. The press-materials section of AHS website seems to be stuck on day 1 so no help there.

However, thanks to our intrepid reporter (well, not ours, really, but we'll adapt her for the occasion :P) Eileen, we got some glimpses on what's going on.

One of the sessions she visited dealt with "how patients need to play an active role in their healthcare team and how doctors can help facilitate that". Read about it here, in the Last day of sessions.

She also had some time to sit down with Dr. John Claude Krusz to talk about Ketamine as a migraine treatment. It's somewhat controversial and most definitely revolutionary practice that is showing much promise. Do check out Eileen's post about it.
There's even a video of Dr. Krusz' presentation so it's good times for everybody.

For farther reading, here's a Ketamine yielding surprising results article by Diana Lee. She has been using Ketamine nasal spray with remarkable success. For additional info on Ketamine, here's "Special K" Fights Migraine by yours truly. This post contains links to Teri Robert's and Dr. Krusz' articles on using Ketamine in IV therapy for refractory migraines.

In more news from the above-mentioned conference, medicalnewstoday.com reports on MAP Pharma's MAP0004.

As mentioned earlier, MAP0004 is an inhaled formula of Dihydroergotamine Mesylate, or Ergoline, or D.H.E; depending on what you know. For decades it's been used to threat migraines as injections under the name of DHE-45® and as inhalation under the name of Migranal®.

The question at the time of writing was - why MAP0004 is better than existing delivery methods. Now we know the answer.

When inhaled, DHE does "not activate receptors associated with side effects frequently seen with IV DHE". As an added bonus, "MAP0004 is designed to be self-administered by patients at home via MAP Pharmaceuticals' proprietary Tempo(R) inhaler." Good news for those who use DHE for aborting their migraines.

It still doesn't show why it's better than Migranal but we'll leave this particular question for another time.

And so, my gentle readers, this concludes "The 50th Annual Scientific Meeting of American Headache Society (AHS) Coverage".

Both Teri and Eileen will be posting extensive write-ups on what they've learned during the conference. So keep checking MyMigraineConnection.com's SharePosts for their articles.

Big Thanks to them both for keeping all of us in the loop.
