Pretending the migraines don't exist is as common in literature as it is in politics. A person with migraines might be perceived as weak and unreliable. Such person would never make a good leader or a leading character. At least that's the presumption.
To float the common sense approach belly-up down the river, here's a couple of paragraphs from a new book "ATMOSPHERIC DISTURBANCES" by Rivka Galchen:
The hayfeverishly fresh scent of Rema's shampoo was filling the air and through that brashness I squinted at this woman, and at that small dog, acknowledging to myself only that something was extraordinarily wrong. She, the woman, the possible dog lover, leaned down to de-shoe. Her hair obscured her face somewhat, and my migraine occluded the edges of my vision, but still, I could see: same unzipping of wrinkly boots, same taking off of same baby blue coat with jumbo charcoal buttons, same tucking behind ears of dyed cornsilk blonde hair.
"Oh!" the simulacrum said quietly, seeming to notice the dimmed lights. "I'm so sorry." She imitated Rema's Argentine accent perfectly, the halos around the vowels. "You are having your migraine?" She pressed that lean russet puppy against her chest; the puppy trembled.
A person with migraines as a main hero? Well, I'll be. Of course, migraines are the least of his problems but they are present and do affect his actions. The question is - would the migraine-colored perception be sustained through out the novel and how well it would integrate into the plot. We'll wait and see, my gentle readers, we'll wait and see. The book should be out sometime time soon and could prove to be an interesting read.
By the way, the original title of the book was "Open Letter to the Royal Academy of Meteorology"; to yours truly it sounded better than "Atmospheric Disturbances", less of a generic smell to it. Anywho, lets hope the book lives up to the originality originally originated. Or yah, and lets hope they'll publish in on Kindle.
